An unusual — but very cool – proposal idea
Sappy romantic fare like The Vow lead us to believe that proposals — and romantic moments in general — have to be over-the-top. There might be an orchestra playing in the background. Rose petals might fall from the sky. Tinkerbell might make the commute from Disneyland to sprinkle fairy dust during the moment. Then, you’ve got your real-life romantic moments, where men who seriously lack in originality propose on Valentine’s Day or Christmas Eve. Though I, like most women, wouldn’t sniff at the standard on-bended knee affair, I do have to give props where they’re deserved. James Roberts, I salute you.
This guy is pretty adorable. The 27-year-old Brit told his girlfriend that he had won a competition to get a close and personal look at the penguins of the London Zoo.
The Chester native had actually entered a competition run by his local shopper center to live out his ‘dream proposal.’ He won after describing the love he had for Michelle Rogers, whom had nursed him back to health after he was badly injured in a car accident.
James turned up at the penguin enclosure on February 14 (of course) wearing a tuxedo (which, hopefully, he realized was a tongue in cheek reference to his ‘penguin suit’) and did the one knee thing.
His proposal was immediately accepted.
How romantic, right? The two then posed with a penguin named Adelie to seal the deal.
The funniest part of this whole story is the fact that the whole shebang was captured on CCTV camera by two female zoo employees who thoughtfully gave a running commentary throughout.
They didn’t know they had recorded themselves speaking, of course.
Their comments ranged from “That’s so cool!” to “How romantic!” and “So sweet!”
Both were silently expectant, however, as they waited for Rogers to answer.
When she said yes, one girl turned to the other and said sourly: “Literally, I actually want to vomit. I hate Valentine’s Day. It’s, like, in my face.”
