A new way to find a man: dating by smell
I am a big believer in pheromones. I don’t know if they actually work, of it’s just a placebo effect making me feel more confident, but I’m a fan. Apparently, so is one of my fellow Angelenos: a lady named Judith Prays came up with the innovative concept of a ‘pheromone party.’ But what in the heck is a PP? For that matter, what in the heck are pheromones? And most importantly, did anyone actually have any success?
A pheromone (from Greek φέρω phero “to bear” + hormone from Greek ὁρμή – “impetus”) is a secreted or excreted chemical factor that triggers a social response in members of the same species. Basically, our bodies release a chemical that aids us in becoming attracted to someone of the opposite sex. We are attracted to the natural ‘scent’ of someone else.
Prays’ plan was pretty good, if I do say so myself. She asked singletons to wear plain white T-shirts for three days in a row, and then put said dirty shirts in a numbered plastic bag. Then, guests at Los Angeles art gallery Mastodon Mesawere asked to sniff each bag and mark down with scent they enjoyed the most.
OK, so her subjects probably could have dealt with wearing the shirt for two days instead of three — who’s with me that men smell nasty after two days regardless of how hygienic they are?? — but isn’t this kind of a cool idea? At the very least, it’s a cool scientific experiment.
Though the results aren’t yet in yet, the Georgia-based artist has been holding similar events in Brooklyn, New York since 2010. Oddly enough, she’s had a lot of success with her malodorous events. One smelly fete even resulted in 12 relationships…and the hookups that resulted from those evenings of sexual attraction are too numerous to count!

She sniffed up the party plan after realizing that picking mates based purely on physicality and scent wasn’t such a bad idea. She told The Daily: “The first time I dated someone for purely physical reasons, it was amazing how well it went. I was so into his smell even when it was objectively nasty. So then I just thought, what if I could choose people by smell?“
I’m with you, lady, and I want in! Just saying though, can we make this happen in two days, not three? I’m pretty sure that I will never be attracted to male BO….

I love this article! I’m a total believer in the power of pheromones myself! It sounds funny but I swear even animals have them. I can’t tell you how many people that don’t like little dogs or dogs in general love my cairn terrier, Mali. Even dudes love her! I always have other dog owners of larger breeds comment on how their dog usually doesn’t tolerate little dogs but can’t get enough of Mali. So, if it works for dogs I know it for sure works for us! But I guess us g,irls have been a long believer in the system, I mean who doesn’t love wearing their man’s shirt? I’m with you on the 2 day rule though!
