Guest columnist Donna “Man Whisperer” Sozio has the scoop on the men of Sundance

Sundancing starts at the gate at LAX.  Waiting to board their flights are gaggles of contenders, somebodies, divas, actors, hustlers, and more men rocking skinny jeans than a Ricky Martin concert in West Hollywood.

But don’t let the skinny jeans fool you.  There are more men than just indie types to be found at the Sundance Film Festival. The streets are packed with hot, successful, and ambitious men from all over the country:  a refreshing respite from the typical dating scene saturated with 89% women all lamenting “where have all the good men gone?” more…

Do pheromones really work, or does a placebo effect make us feel bold and brazen?

I felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland yesterday when I opened my mailbox to find a package — no name, no note — including a little black bottle with pretty red writing reading “Erox.” Was I receiving hate mail? Would I grow even smaller than my already diminutive 5’1 height? Was someone trying to get me high? Who knew? So I did what any irresponsible, curious 30-something woman would do: I Googled. And then, I sprayed. more…

Having problems deciding what to buy this Christmas? Love is to the rescue!

Christmas is perfect time of year to show you love someone by showering them with gifts (how commercial of me!), though most die-hard travelers might feel encumbered by a plethora of unnecessary goodies. The love trekker, however, appreciates aesthetics if they’re scouring the globe to find a man. Here’s what you should buy for both the wanderer and the lover at large. more…

Shira Kastan was a young entrepreneur with a vision: she sought to create her own beauty line. Once her mission had been accomplished with determination, she, as many women do, wanted to make her boyfriend – the then love of her life – part of her success. So she lovingly named her cosmetics company, Robbie Lip Gloss, in his honor. Though one might say “quelle mistake!”, Kastan, a South Florida resident, is having the last laugh. Her past love helped her to see her true potential, and she’s currently realizing her dream. What more can you ask for? This is her story. more…

A new study reveals what men really think is behind your hair hue

Does your hair color really reflect your personality?  I think so, but then, I’ve never been described as ‘needy’ before because of my goldilocks. Yet, a new study states that golden-haired girls need more from the men in their lives. My immediate questions are: ‘why’ and ‘is that a problem?’

Did it work for Paula Abdul and her cat boyfriend in 'Opposites Attract'? I don't think so!

For love to work, we need to date who we can date

I was in Prague the first time I noticed a discrepancy in the attractiveness between men and women who were dating. Everywhere I went I’d see these beautiful, whippet thin model-like women with small, dumpy Czech men and think, ‘God, she must be with him for the money because I’d rather Coyote Ugly myself than wake up next to that creature every morning.’ The next time I noticed this undesirable social phenomenon was when I moved to Manhattan in 2005. Everywhere you turned there were successful, attractive, fit women getting all worked up over a Wall St. sea urchin or a semi-acceptable Meatpacking District party boy. Despite the fact that most of these ladies were lovely, they all seemed to be alone. But why? more…

Shape magazine determines what men around the globe are looking for physically

Can you imagine how boring the world would be if we all looked alike? In my imagination, it would look like a super prepped out boarding school where, in addition to wearing the same uniform, we were all wearing the same face. No, thanks. Although I am flawed, I’m happy with who I am. I am grateful to be unique. And somewhere around the world, there’s a country of fine young gentlemen who would agree that a 5’1, athletic-bodied Italian-German (I, like most Americans, prefer to cite my ancestral roots) is their cup of tea. But where? What are guys looking for? more…

Do you agree that there’s a total lack of originality when it comes to romantic moves from men these days? Check out this guide to the meanings of other love-related flowers

This post should come with a big, fat biohazard sticker, because I already know there’s going to be some haters out there who will read this incredulously and ponder aloud, “What the hell in she complaining about?” I have never been, nor will I ever be, a fan of the rose. If I personally receive roses, or if a colleague’s boyfriend has a super ostentatious bunch sent to her desk, or if a friend’s boyfriend says ‘I’m sorry’ with said flowers, I’m unimpressed. Roses are so unoriginal. Yet, the meaning of flowers stay the same around the world — and no matter where you are, there will be blooms that convey a particular emotion. So what can he send you if you’re as bored by the conventional and unimaginative as I am? more…
