Don’t miss out on love…

Obviously, I’m a big believer that love can happen anywhere, at any time.  That’s why I want you to imagine the following scenario. Pretend for a second that you’re a New Yorker waiting for the 6 train and you happen to lock eyes with a handsome stranger across the crowded platform.  You feel a jolt down to your pinky toe (and maybe elsewhere too). But then the moment passes. He gets on the train and you’re still stuck waiting with a sinking feeling in your stomach, wondering what might have been. more…

Also get informed about the cities that value sex the least — so you can avoid them!

I am a very, very lucky girl. I was pleased and surprised to find that my hometown of Santa Monica, California, was ranked second among the top ten places in America where sex is valued the most. I mean, I would be more excited if, say, love was valued above all else, but this I can live with. Believe it or not, eight of the top ten cities on Chemistry.com‘s sex list — in a survey of 10 million people — are in the Golden State. Peace, love and surfers galore! Why doesn’t everyone just move to good, old C.A.?

Tao of Travel author Paul Theroux has sought out ten happy hot spots. Check them out here

Paul Theroux is a man after my own heart. Instead of seeking out the trendy on his travels, his quest is to seek out happiness around the globe. Theroux has been hot-footing it around the world and lingering in the places that fill him with joy. These locations are ”places where there’s fulfillment, good food and enough of it, good weather, families intact, and a sense that they don’t have a desire to look for something elsewhere,” the Tao of Travel author recently told USA Today. Can you imagine how easy it would be to live and love in a place where everyone is completely fulfilled by the quality of their lives? Wouldn’t it be refreshing to meet a guy who was totally satisfied with his job and the direction his life was taking, not constantly looking ahead to the next best thing? more…

This is the premise behind Lauren Oliver’s latest novel, Delirium, and instead of providing concrete answers, it’s given me some serious food for thought

The word ‘delirium’ has two definitions, according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary. Definition number one: ‘an acute mental disturbance characterized by confused thinking and disrupted attention usually accompanied by disordered speech and hallucinations’. Sounds fun. Definition number two — ‘frenzied excitement’ — is much more my cup of tea. However, these dueling determinations are both present in Lauren Oliver‘s latest book, Delirium, and both are used in reference to love. Is loving someone something dirty? Is it a disease that can rip you apart or something exciting and intoxicating? Or can it be both? more…

Streetspark says yes! Can I get someone to take this for a test-drive?

I received an email from my friend Christina today telling me I HAD to write about this new iPhone dating application called Streetspark. Life lesson #1 here: trust your pals. I’m now officially dying to try this app because — tada! — it claims to make dating in your very own city easy as 1, 2, 3. And as many of you know, it isn’t when we’re on vacation that we have problems meeting our match, it’s right here in our home cities… more…
