Don’t miss out on love…

Obviously, I’m a big believer that love can happen anywhere, at any time.  That’s why I want you to imagine the following scenario. Pretend for a second that you’re a New Yorker waiting for the 6 train and you happen to lock eyes with a handsome stranger across the crowded platform.  You feel a jolt down to your pinky toe (and maybe elsewhere too). But then the moment passes. He gets on the train and you’re still stuck waiting with a sinking feeling in your stomach, wondering what might have been. more…

Where can you avoid feeling sad and alone come February 14?

I’m not one of those people who snarls at loved up couples on Valentine’s Day, nor am I one of those women that needs to go out and get drunk with a gaggle of girlfriends to prove that I’m like, sooooo happy being single. But the way the world makes such a big deal out of this one holiday, I feel like I should be living one particular Bridget Jones’ Diary quote: “I suddenly realized that, unless something changed soon, I was going to live a life where my major relationship was with a bottle of wine and I’d finally diet, fat and alone, and be found three weeks later half-eaten by Alsatians…or I was going to turn into Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction.” more…

Where to find love — literally — around the world

You all know that “looking for love in all the right places” is my slogan. So I’m going to be straight up with you and say that — while you’ll literally find love on this list, I can’t actually vouch for the quality of menfolk you’ll meet in each town. This is my bid to make nice after hating on Valentine’s Day all week by creating a comprehensive guide to the cities named in the honor of lurv and romance. 1967 it ain’t, but 2011 can be your summer of love – especially if you’re an avid festival-goer. What better way to spend a sultry summer night than by geeking out to your favorite band with a beer in hand, pausing to kiss the quasi-hipster next to you underneath the stars? Tres romantique, non? Here’s your guide to who’s playing where and what kind of guys you’ll meet over the next three months. Rock on, ladies. more…

If you want to date a dexter, you’ll have the best luck in these ten American cities

The nerds may have had their revenge in the ’80s, but it seems like they’re having the last laugh now in 2011. Geeks simply couldn’t be cooler these days. The Social Network — a film about the creation of Facebook and its founder, Mark Zuckerberg – was nominated for several Oscars, including a leading actor nod for Jesse Eisenberg. MZ himself was named Time magazine’s 2010 Person of the Year. Even on the CW’s overly melodramatic primetime soap opera, 90210, rich/cool kid Naomi Clark (AnnaLynne McCord) is shocked to find herself in love with her dweeby science partner — and dressing up like an Avatar Na’vi to woo him. If super-smart but socially awkward guys are your particular bag, then today you’re in luck, because Up to Date, Match.com‘s official blog, has ranked the top ten cities to meet the dork of your dreams. Hey, everyone needs love, right? more…

Streetspark says yes! Can I get someone to take this for a test-drive?

I received an email from my friend Christina today telling me I HAD to write about this new iPhone dating application called Streetspark. Life lesson #1 here: trust your pals. I’m now officially dying to try this app because — tada! — it claims to make dating in your very own city easy as 1, 2, 3. And as many of you know, it isn’t when we’re on vacation that we have problems meeting our match, it’s right here in our home cities… more…
