Where should you go if you’re single and ready to mingle?

I’m not going to sugar-coat this for you, and I’m sure you won’t be surprised, but I absolutely loathe New Year’s Eve. Not to sound sour, but there’s so much anticipation, so much effort, into ringing in the New Year in style that inevitably, the night itself is a bit of a letdown. more…

Also set to make $200 from selling website to CNN

Brains, brawn, blue eyes…and you might just catch him wearing a kilt. What’s not to love about Pete Cashmore? The good news: the Scottish Mashable.com founder is a closet geek who’s in talks to sell his website to CNN for $200 million. The better news: he’s not engaged….yet. more…

Why does this kiss countdown count and where did it come from?

Scrooge McLoveTrekker has come out of the Santa bag yet again to harumph: “New Years Eve is my least favorite holiday of the year.” There’s so much damn pressure we put on ourselves to have a great evening, to find that perfect outfit, to kiss a guy who matters that we inevitably end up killing the night before it’s even started. It’s as if we’re saying ‘THIS is the night that determines how our following year turns out. There’s no going back.” Except we all rationally know that one measly night has very little to do at all with the tone of your upcoming year, and if you think about it, the people you tend to spend NYE with are rarely the people who end up impacting your year, in the end. So, where did these misguided fears and irrational pressures come from? more…

The 10 strangest sex-related studies/crimes of the year

As 2011 comes to a close, I felt it was my personal duty to recap the strangest sexual studies/shenanigans of the year (not my own, of course). So read on, and read to the very end. You don’t want to miss the sad tale of a man who was caught giving the old one-two to a shape-shifting donkey…which he then promptly fell in love with though he was outraged she had morphed from a cheap hooker into an ass. more…

First question: WHY? Second question: How do we make it better?

First, let me preface this piece by saying its basis lies in a survey taken only across the U.K. The United Kingdom isn’t that big. And no, I am not trying to rationalize the results away because I have secret fantasies about strapping, burly Scottish men (although I do). But the fact does remain that, throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, it is the Scotsmen who are unhappiest between the sheets. more…

If you like pretty boys as much as I do, you’re in trouble ladies!

Facial symmetry has long been the scientific standard for beauty. A perfectly proportionate face equals physically appealing. However, a new study has found that most people with pretty faces are sort of selfish pigs, as well. Surprise, surprise. more…

Tao of Travel author Paul Theroux has sought out ten happy hot spots. Check them out here

Paul Theroux is a man after my own heart. Instead of seeking out the trendy on his travels, his quest is to seek out happiness around the globe. Theroux¬†has been hot-footing it around the world and lingering in the places that fill him with joy. These locations are¬†”places where there’s fulfillment, good food and enough of it, good weather, families intact, and a sense that they don’t have a desire to look for something elsewhere,” the Tao of Travel author recently told USA Today. Can you imagine how easy it would be to live and love in a place where everyone is completely fulfilled by the quality of their lives? Wouldn’t it be refreshing to meet a guy who was totally satisfied with his job and the direction his life was taking, not constantly looking ahead to the next best thing? more…

Not everyone needs chocolate and diamonds to fete the day of love…

Love is the international language, after all, so it’s unsurprising that other countries celebrate Valentine’s Day. However, not everyone around the world thinks of Feb. 14 as the day of chocolate, red roses and giant teddy bears. So how do others around the world fete the day of love and romance? more…
