Amanda Chatel recounts a not-so-great religious first date in Brooklyn

I have never, ever been on a religious date in any way, shape or form (unless you count going on Search as a 16-year-old in a bid to make-out with my high school crush, which I don’t). That said, I never want to. I’m not, by nature, a religious person so a date to church, synagogue or temple would be a huge turn-off. If you’re both super religious, it’s still kind of a weird date idea. I’m not on board. The funniest thing I’ve read recently…you’ll breathe a sigh of relief for yourself afterwards

I’ve been lucky. My dates may not have panned out into anything very interesting, but no man has done any of the following in front of me: picked his teeth, farted, pulled out a strand of my hair and flossed with it, tried to have sex on a table, told me I was looking ‘handsome’ or…head-butted a wall for shits and giggles. Sure, I may have slunk away in the opposite direction just to avoid one more second of conversation with a Jewish mama’s boy who had convinced himself I was one brain cell away from the short bus, but in hindsight, again, I got lucky. But Amanda Chatel‘s recent date in New York City – all I can say is wow. Now that is some serious shit. I have to give her props. She laughs at the situation, which, as well all know, is a great alternative to the animalistic sobbing she must have done when she got home. Read on, Trekkers. And may the same situation never happen to any of us.
